SPEAKERS BUREAU - SPEAKERS FOR GROUPS
We have speakers for your group.
The Speakers Bureau of the Wichita Bar Association was formed to act as a liaison
between Wichita and the surrounding communities and the Bar Association membership in providing
speakers. The Bureau matches up your area of interest with an attorney willing to share his/her knowledge.
The Wichita Bar Association was formed in 1915 and has over 1200 attorneys and judges as members. We invite
you to take advantage of their experience in all areas of law--a service provided at no cost to your group.

Have you ever asked:
- How can a lawyer represent someone who is obviously guilty?
- Why do I need a will?
- How do I start a business?
- How does the law protect my privacy?
- How can my family attempt to avoid paying death taxes?
- What if I need to file bankruptcy--what do I do?
- What constitutes sexual harassment in the workplace?
- What kind of options are available to deal with health care decisions?
- Are court-appointed attorneys available to everyone?
- I found a leak in my basement--who is responsible--me or the seller?
Topics are in no way restricted to the questions listed. If the topic is related to our
laws or legal system, we have a speaker for you. Please allow us two weeks to make the arrangements.
Remember: This service is provided at no cost to your group.
WE DO MORE THAN TALK:
If you need legal advice and don't have a lawyer, we will arrange for a
consultation of up to 30 minutes with an attorney who practices in the area of your concern.
Minority high school juniors and seniors who have an interest in
pursuing a career in the law are matched with lawyers/mentors.
The long-term goal of the program is that those students who
pursue a career in law will return to the Wichita area to
practice.
This program is aimed at high school students between their junior and senior
years who have an interest in pursuing careers in the law. The
interns work in law firms and legal departments over the summer
and participate in weekly programs and tours.
Law Day Activities
On about May 1 of each year the WBA, along with other bar associations across
the country, celebrates Law Day. Attorneys respond to over 200
speaker requests from teachers at local elementary, middle and
high schools during the month surrounding Law Day and throughout the year.
WBA Members Volunteer
WBA members are volunteers, board members and officers in over 50
local charitable organizations. Members also support our
schools, churches and the arts by tutoring, refereeing sports
and singing in the Wichita Symphony. They have scraped and
painted local homes for the Mennonite Housing Repair Affair.
Every three years the WBA produces a Bar Show (a musical
extravaganza) and donates the proceeds from one night's
performance to the Orpheum Theatre for continued restoration of the historical building.
