Intersection Between CINC and Family Law
8:05—8:55 a.m. (50 Minutes) presented by
Grant A. Brazill
Mr. Brazill will present on the intersection and overlap between family l
law and CINC law. It will include how to handle conflicting parenting
time orders, child support orders, etc.

Break 8:55 a.m.—9:05 a.m.

Juvenile Offender Legal Updates
9:05— 9:55 a.m. (50 Minutes) presented by
Hon. Kevin M. Smith
Judge Smith will discuss how SB 367 revised the Kansas
juvenile justice code from top to bottom. Judge Smith will
highlight the most important aspects of the legislation that
all juvenile offender attorneys need to know .

Break 9:55 a.m.—10:05 a.m.

10:05—11:45 a.m. (100 Minutes) presented by Ron W. Paschal
Several rules of the Kansas Rules of Professional Conduct which have
specific application to those who practice juvenile law will be discussed.
Mr. Paschal will discuss the rules of confidentiality and zealous
representation of the client in light of the fact someone other than the
client is paying for the representation. Additionally, current trends in
ethics law will be discussed including topics such as: email
confidentiality, cloud storage of client confidences, social media, ethical
obligations of support staff and the differing role of a guardian ad litem/
attorney for child. Attorneys who practice juvenile offender law and child
in need of care will benefit from this discussion.
